CakePHP is an open source framework specifically designed for rapid development of PHP projects. It handles the boring repetitive code to build the base of any project, allowing us to focus solely on developing for the needs of the project at hand.
It has a huge following with many resources available to us and because it is an open source framework, everything is FREE. Many developers around the world use CakePHP meaning there is an active community that supports CakePHP and helps to improve it constantly.
What do we use it for?
CakePHP was designed to assist developers in building high quality & functionality PHP projects rapidly. The beauty of CakePHP, is it handles so many small repetitive tasks out of the box. It can be used for any size project from small static websites (no content changes) to massive e-Commerce solutions using huge databases. For most projects we have created bespoke content management systems, integration into large pre-existing systems and beautiful e-Commerce sites.
Why do we like it?
First and foremost would be the ease and speed at which we can develop a reliable and stable initial design with limited functionality. From here we then spend our time building in the main functionality of the website, be it customised functionality, booking systems, content management systems, e-Commerce systems and even blogs.
We can continually adapt the system to changing client requirements and make quick updates to the system being developed. The standards that CakePHP requires developers to have, makes it effortless to keep an on-going contract with the client and apply major updates without a loss of service. We do not have to re-invent the wheel every time a major update or new functionality is required.
